Description

First light with my TEC 140ED.  A beautiful pair of galaxies in Camelopardalis.  The larger of the two, NGC 2336, is massive, stretching 200,000 light years across or twice the Milky Way's size. It's 100 million light years away.  It's noted for the young, hot blue stars in its outer arms while the inner part of the galaxy is dominated by much older stars, giving its redder color.  IC467, the companion galaxy visually, is about the same distance away but smaller.  Research from Egypt using a 1.88 meter scope concluded that IC467 is one of the bluest in its galaxy class and has active star formation in both its core and arms.  I tried to draw out the blue star colors in both galaxies without over doing it.  Hopefully, I succeeded.   What I haven't yet been able to find is what the tiny galaxy sitting at about 4 o'clock from NGC 2336 is named.  I've looked at many Astrobin images and none of them have annotated that particular object.
